Yes, the ATO accepts digital (scanned) receipts for BAS, annual returns, audits and other reporting requirements. The ATO has been accepting digital (scanned) receipts since at least 2005 under certain conditions, all of which are met by Squirrel Street. According to ATO Ruling 2005/9 receipts must be:

  1. Not altered or manipulated once stored;
  2. Retained for the statutory period of five years; and
  3. Capable of being retrieved and read at all times by Tax Office staff.
We have delivered a Declaration of Compliance to the ATO regarding Ruling 2005/9.

In the spirit of the ATO's requirements, we treat data security as our highest priority, which is why our internet server technology is certified by Thawte, a well-known provider of information integrity and security online.

To facilitate your interactions with the ATO, our data is available 24/7 via your Squirrel Street account, including images of the original source documents. Additionally, we integrate with all leading accounting packages to allow similar retrieval via the same system that displays your accounts.

Simply put, we believe Squirrel Street is the best and easiest tool for keeping safe and presenting your receipts in case of ATO query or audit.
